We’ve likely all done this at some point when at home, use the toaster and the microwave at the same time – and the power goes off. You may not realize you’ve tripped a circuit in your home and you’ll need to get to your breaker to find out what happened. But do you know where your breaker is? Do you know what a breaker is?
Breakers, or more simply electrical panels, are the main distribution points for electrical circuits in the home. They serve as the connection between the external wires coming from outside to the internal wires of your home’s electrical system.
When you use appliances, you use the wires in your walls and send an electrical load through those wires. If the load is too great then your circuit breaker trips. Tripped circuits do then what they are intended to do, which is to protect the electrical wiring in your house and keep you safe.
However if this happens repeatedly on the same curcuit, there may be something wrong with your home’s wiring.
That’s why it’s important to make sure your system is up-to-date and safe. You may also need to do an upgrade on your home’s wiring, or the breaker itself.
Everything Electric does do maintenance work as well as things like checking on efficient circuit use with thermal imaging. We also replace wiring and breakers as part of our residential services program.
